Summer Fun in Japan

The kids are out of school and so today was the first day of summer for us. And what a beautiful day it was! Clear skies and temps in the high 70s so we had to go to the beach. Our favorite beach is the Miss Veedol Beach. There is a bit of history, as it was the launch site of the first trans-pacific flight (who knows where it landed...anyone...anyone...Wenatchee, Washington, that's right). They have a look out tower (where Truman and Tenny are ((and mom holding on to Tenny for dear life))) on top of the old runway and a full size model of the plane that made the flight, the Miss Veedol

As every time at the beach, you start just getting your feet wet...

...or trying not to get them wet...

...so the solution is obvious

Tenny didn't want to get his cloths wet...

...so he just took them off

The obligatory sand burying

Dinner afterward at Lake Ogawara about 10 miles from the beach.

The rest of the lake

About 30 secs after Rose stopped this video, Tenny got knocked over by a huge wave and had the saddest/most shocked/angriest face. I guess we just need to roll the camera all the time.

Clothes on the beach, it never works - that's why dad and I only go to those nude beaches, saves on the wear and tear on our good D.I. duds - 'course then you do have a problem w/ the sand . . . . .

I love you blog! The title is great, and your entries are so entertaining...but do you always have to make us all so envious of your roamin' life?!!?
Thanks for the pictures and videos of your kids...with their clothes on we wouldn't have been able to see that they had grown :) Tenny was smart not to get his clothes wet, but sand in every crevasse?...at least, I am sure Tenny brought home some souvenirs from the beach with him.
For my summer vacation, I am by water also...the sprinklers on the lawn and the hose in the garden...maybe I'll take my clothes off so they won't get wet and take some pictures too, and I will post those pictures on a blog so you all can see all of my summer fun...and maybe not, for I don't want to make anyone jealous, and plus I want to stay on your blog emailing address list....

Your pictures of Sabasura Beach brings back good memories. My grandmother's cousin, Clyde Pangborn was the pilot of Miss Veedol who flew from Misawa to Wenatchee Washington USA in 1931. It took 41 hours and 13 minutes. First across the Pacific Non-Stop.
I visited the site twice on visits to Misawa. If you want a real treat, make Miso soup with the tiny clams in Lake Ogawara. Delicioius.

See
www.spiritofwenatchee.org

for the story of the flight that originated here. A replica of the original Miss Veedol has been built with the intent of duplicating the original history making flight. Pangborn's cousin.
